Cartridges

Most of our budget turntables include a cartridge. You may wish to buy a cartridge to install in a new turntable without one, to upgrade an existing one, or to replace an old one.

All modern cartridges have a diamond stylus (the "needle"), and are available in two types:

Moving-magnet (MM) cartridges are generally less expensive, and have replaceable stylii.

Moving-coil (MC) cartridges have non-replaceable stylii, and often require a phono stage with greater amplification (MC compatible). Most vinylphiles, however, consider MCs to be of higher quality.

Please note: All cartridges include a stylus. You don't need to purchase a separate stylus.
