Tonearms

Many of our turntables include a tonearm already installed. You may wish to buy a tonearm to install (or to have us install) in a new turntable without a tonearm or to upgrade an existing tonearm

Most tonearms are pivoted, with the pivot designed either as a gimbal (rather like a ship's compass or a gyroscope) or a unipivot (a sharp, hardened point supporting an inverted cup).

An alternative design is the linear tonearm, which tracks the record in a straight line. Linear tonearms have the theoretical advantage of tracking records grooves in a straight line, the same way the grooves were cut. They are, however, more complex than pivots, and may require more maintenance.
